| Q: I downloaded the COM@nywhere product, but was not able to make it function as a Device workstation 4 on a Windows Remote workstation 2003. The application reported that the "Com Port Was In Use". | | A: Please try to restart the service on Remote workstationside (the computer where real comports you want to connect are located). You can use MMC console for that. |

| Q: I need the driver to connect over a TCP/IP link to a remote Java application running on an embedded device with a wireless connection. I actually need to get from you a protocol to be implemented on the remote device. The PC side of the application is using a legacy windows application which may use your virtual driver. | | A: It means that you can buy COM@nywhere OEM license. You need to implement Remote workstationside in your java app. and use COM@nywhere Device workstation in your Windows to make the connection which you want to establish. |

| Q: Is it possible to connect a serial port remotely ? ( I have a costumer in other city , and in his office he has a Servo Drive connected on COM1 port. I want to control this drive by here) | | A: Yes. It's possible. Using our COM@nywhere you can add virtual COM-port to your system and all read/write operations to this port will be redirected to COM-port on remote machine. |

|
| Q: The system requirements are W2K and XP ... do you support other platforms like Unix , Linux , Windows 98 or either the old MS-DOS 6.22 ? | | A: Our software includes 2 parts - Device workstation and server. Our Remote workstationcan share physical com port through LAN (or inet) and Device workstation can create virtual comport and redirect all data flow
from Remote workstation to physical com port. Currently we support Win 2000, XP,2003 but we plan to support other platforms like Unix, Linux, Win9x, WinCE soon. |

| Q: I was thinking on the following situation ..... I have to connect a serial port in another PC. This PC
is my Device workstation, which is located in another city and this PC ( the Device workstation ) has to connect to his port ( COM1 ) the ServoDrive , may I connect to this PC ( the Device workstation ) and see that serial port ( COM1 ) in my PC ... and the program which I use , has the option to select the appropriate COM port , when I choose for i.e COM4 in my computer ... can your program link the COM1 ( the Device workstation ) to my COM4 ? | | A: Absolutely right. And you can read/write to com4 as if you have direct connection to com1 on remote computer. |

|
| Q: If my PC doesn't have modem but internet connection only provided by internal ethernet .... , what can I do ? | | A: You need to provide internet access in you computer to perform that task, no matter via modem or via LAN. |

|
| Q: I have installed a virtual COM3 over a real COM2 port locally in my machine. This time after the installation, the virtual port is visible from an HyperTerminal but it still does not work. I have a modem connected to my COM2 and once installed a COM3 I cannot communicate wit it through the COM3 interface. | | A:
It is necessary to install COM@nywhere Remote Workstation on the machine, which will use virtual com port and COM@nywhereserversetup.exe
on the machine which will share physical com port. After that, you need
to start system services on Device workstation and
Remote workstationmachine (AVSDDevice workstation & AVSDserver) You can start the service by "net start" command or MyComputer->Manage->Services. |

|
| Q: I have WinXP with SP2. Do you have the same utility for XP? | | A: You don't need any utilities to use our software with XP. It's just you need to do the following: To allow network connection you have to disable your firewall or open the port you want to connect through. If you use standard Widows FireWall, follow please instruction: 1. Open "Network Connections" window Start->Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections-> ->Network Connections 2. Open "Properties" Window for the connection you want to manage by clicking with mouse right button on it. 3. In appeared window click "Advanced" -> "Settings". 4. Now the FireWall configuration window is available. You can disable blocking at all (it increases your security risk) or add a port to non blocking list. To disable FireWall check the off button and apply changes. To add a port to non blocking list, do the following: 1) "Exceptions"->"Add Port" 2) In the "Add Port" window type a program name (real name is not necessarily) and the port number this program uses for connection.
IMPORTANT: The port used by COM@nywhere is 4445 Example: Name: COM@nywhere Port Number: 4445
Click "OK" button and apply changes. |
